⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sad-Vents is a new solo show written and performed by Eleanor Hill. It is currently running at Underbelly Bristo Square until the 28th August with tickets at £11.50.

This show is highly unique in its concept as unlike other solo shows, this show is highly technical with the exciting use of live video mixed with the chaos of social media. At the start of this show, we are encouraged to keep our phones on and out for this ‘groundbreaking’ show. These encouraged breach of theatre etiquette really allows for the show to take on its own life and become truly unforgettable.

Content warnings are aplenty within this show due to the heavy content and the way these topics are raised. But despite this, the show raises several laughs through its very dark humour. The idea of the show being ‘live-grammed’ as it were seemed like a gimmick to me before the show, but it worked really well, immersing the audience into Eleanor’s world.

Constance Villemont has created a simple yet effective world for this show through her set design, as an audience we are transported into Eleanor’s crusty and rubbish-laden bedroom. The show is not always perfect and sometimes feels repetitive, but it is still often riveting and the hour run quickly passes.

Eleanor’s actual performance in the show is brilliant and thoroughly captivating and watching her spiralling in the show creates an almost sense of complicity within the audience, especially in a moment when the camera is turned on us.

I really recommend this show to anyone, but please make sure before seeing the show that you are aware of the content warnings as this could potentially be triggering for some.
